Methodology & sources
- Space per person: 30 in minimum, 36 in comfortable, 42 in generous, 48 in for spread-out papers (Paul Downs seating guide; OFW sizing guide).
- Seats on a rectangle: 2 × floor(length ÷ spacing) + 1 at each end. This reproduces published charts (e.g. 48×96 in = 8, 48×144 = 10, 48×168 = 12 at 30 in).
- Width: 36–42 in up to 6 ft long, 42–48 in to 10 ft, 48–54 in to 16 ft, 54–60 in to 22 ft, 60 in+ beyond. Based on the same charts.
- Clearance: 42–48 in from table edge to wall so chairs can pull out and people can pass; OfficeSimpli’s room table assumes 4 ft on every side (OfficeSimpli).
- Results are planning estimates. Leave extra room for credenzas, displays, and doors.
